Applicable HPE Aruba switch models running the indicated OS versions may experience consistent periodic CPU usage spikes up to 100% approximately every 10 minutes. These spikes will not adversely affect switch operations, but may trigger alarms in network monitoring tools.Starting in KB/WB.15.18.0006, a new NIAP (https://www.niap-ccevs.org/) approved feature called Entropy was introduced to help users create strong cryptographic keys that are harder to predict. This feature automatically runs at 10 minute intervals. It operates at low priority to ensure that CPU cycles are only consumed when the CPU is available to avoid performance impacts. Entropy can consume up to 100% of these free cycles. The behavior can be identified on KB/WB.15.18 OS by enabling "task-monitor cpu" and monitoring the HTTP task via multiple repetitions of "show cpu".HP-2920-24G-PoEP# task-monitor helpUsage: [no] task-monitor <FEATURE-NAME>Description: Enable task monitoring of the specified feature.HP-2920-24G-PoEP# task-monitor cpuHP-2920-24G-PoEP# show cpu70 percent busy, from 10 sec ago1 sec ave: 67 percent busy5 sec ave: 69 percent busy1 min ave: 14 percent busyTask usage for last 5 seconds% CPU | Description-------+--------------------------32.3 | Idle0.3 | Sessions & I/O67.4 | HTTPThe issue can be identified on KB/WB.16.01 OS by enabling"task-monitor cpu" and monitoring the IPSec task via multiple repetitions of "show cpu".HP-2920-24G-PoEP# task-monitor helpUsage: [no] task-monitor <FEATURE-NAME>Description: Enable task monitoring of the specified feature.Aruba-2920-24G-PoEP# task-monitor cpuAruba-2920-24G-PoEP# task-monitor cpuAruba-2920-24G-PoEP# show cpu99 percent busy, from 10 sec ago1 sec ave: 99 percent busy5 sec ave: 99 percent busy1 min ave: 17 percent busyTask usage for last 9 seconds% CPU | Description-------+--------------------------0.2 | Idle0.2 | Sessions & I/O99.4 | IPsec0.2 | Auth & Security

New behavior was added under CR_0000190925 starting in KB/WB.16.01.0007 and KB/WB.15.18.0011 to ensure the Entropy feature runs without causing periodic spikes of 100% CPU utilization. Customers impacted by the behavior described in this document are recommended to update to these or later versions. To download software updates, go to:www.hpe.com/networking/softwareSwitch SeriesDownloadable FileHPE 5400R zl2 Switch SeriesKB_16_01_0007.swiKB_15_18_0011.swiAruba 3810M Switch SeriesKB_16_01_0007.swiAruba 2920 Switch SeriesWB_16_01_0007.swiWB_15_18_0011.swiRECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES: Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively via e-mail through HPE Subscriber's Choice.
