Operating an HP Modular Cooling System (MCS) SL5042 or HP MCS 200 Cooling Unity below the minimum heat load or at a low water temperature may cause the unit to issue false water valve failure warning alarms. HP MCS SL5042 racks and HP MCS 200 units require a minimum heat load to operate properly. The minimum heat load depends on the water supply temperature as shown in Table 1 (below) and detailed in the "Determining Heat Load Capacities" section of theHP MCS SL5042 Rack Site Preparation Guideavailable at the following URL:http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03228099Table 1:Minimum heat load at different water supply temperatures and server air intake temperature.Server Air Intake TemperatureWater Supply TemperatureMinimum Heat Load20 Degrees Celsius (68 Degrees Fahrenheit)7 Degrees Celsius (45 Degrees Fahrenheit)9 kW10 Degrees Celsius (50 Degrees Fahrenheit)7 kW13 Degrees Celsius (55 Degrees Fahrenheit)6 kW16 Degrees Celsius (61 Degrees Fahrenheit)6 kW25 Degrees Celsius (77 Degrees Fahrenheit)7 - 13 Degrees Celsius (45 - 55 Degrees Fahrenheit)16 kW16 Degrees Celsius (61 Degrees Fahrenheit)14 kW18 Degrees Celsius (64 Degrees Fahrenheit)10 kWNote:Failing to provide the minimum heat load to an HP MCS SL5042 rack or MCS 200 unit may result in unstable control of the rack's temperatures and flow rates, especially when temperatures are low.

To resolve the issue described above, either:Increase heat load.ORLower the cold air set point. For further information, consult theHP MCS SL5042 Rack User Guideavailable at the following URL:http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03223351ORIncrease the water-supply temperature.Note:If the valve is open but the Flow Meter does not indicate water flow and no heat load can be added, set the cold air set point to 65 Degrees Fahrenheit. The Flow Meter may then read water flow properly. For further information regarding the maintenance of HP Modular Cooling System (MCS) SL5042 Racks, consult theHP MCS SL5042 Rack Site Preparation Guideavailable at the following URL:http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03228099For further information regarding the maintenance of HP MCS 200 Cooling Unit, consult theHP MCS 200 User Guideavailable at the following URL:http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04054838RECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES: Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively via e-mail through HP Subscriber's Choice.
