There is a small risk that a networking device running Comware version 5 may fail to respond to ARP requests correctly, interrupting normal network routing operations. The problem is triggered by these three conditions:The import / export of VPN data between many instancesMultiple IP addresses corresponding to one MAC addressA large number of MAC movements between portsWhen the fault occurs, a high CPU load on the switch may be observed for the ARP task. Also, packet traces will show the switch failing to respond to ARP Request packets.
Although this has only been reported in the 12500 series switches, there is a small risk that the problem could occur in other Comware 5 devices as well. Comware 7 is not affected by this issue.
The only way to fix this problem after it occurs is:Re-boot the unit or line module which is connected to the devices or network segments experiencing the issue. In an IRF system, re-boot the Master MPU (the slave MPU will take over with minimal system disruption). Then, update to the software version that corrects the problem. The following table indicates the products that could be impacted by this issue and the first full software release that contains the software fix.
