Document VersionRelease DateDetails202/24/2012Add HP R1500 G3 UPS.111/21/2011Original Document Release. Some HP Tower UPS models may exhibit excessive transfer time to battery mode under brownout conditions. This may cause the server to stop responding and the hardware health LED to illuminate or cause a server with a Power Factor Correction (PFC) power supply to unexpectedly shut down and then restart.Brownout conditions can be caused by poor power conditions (voltage fluctuations) from the main utility or instantaneous power interruptions caused by a lightning strike. Under a brownout condition, when the voltage drops to approximately 60V to 80V, the UPS may take 60 milliseconds to transfer from utility power to battery power.
Any of the following HP Tower Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS):HP T750 G2 UPS (NA and Intl) with Firmware Version 1.06 (or earlier).HP T750j UPS with Firmware Version 1.02 (or earlier).HP T1000 G3 UPS (NA and Intl) with Firmware Version 1.06 (or earlier).HP T1000j UPS with Firmware Version 1.08 (or earlier).HP T1500 G3 UPS (NA and Intl) with Firmware Version 1.06 (or earlier).HP T1500j UPS with Firmware Version 1.08 (or earlier).HP R1500 G3 with Firmware Version 1.04 (or earlier).
To prevent excessive transfer time to battery mode under brownout conditions, upgrade the UPS firmware as follows. The updated firmware will allow a quicker response time of ~4 to 5 milliseconds:HP T750 G2 UPS (NA and Intl) to Firmware Version 1.08 (or later).HP T750j UPS to Firmware Version 1.04 (or later).HP T1000 G3 UPS (NA and Intl) to Firmware Version 1.08 (or later).HP T1000j UPS to Firmware Version 1.10 (or later).HP T1500 G3 UPS (NA and Intl) to Firmware Version 1.08 (or later).HP T1500j UPS to Firmware Version 1.10 (or later).HP R1500 G3 to Firmware Version 1.06 (or later). The latest UPS firmware is available for download at the following URL:http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/proliantstorage/power-protection/software/hard-firmware.htmlRECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES: Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively via e-mail through HP Subscriber's Choice.
