On HP 3PAR InServ systems running InForm 2.3.1 MU2, unexpected controller node restarts due to a Virtual Volume (VV) blocking violation are possible. This issue occurs when a group snapshot of a group of VVs is being taken at the same time a separate snapshot of any other VV from within the same group is created. The blocking violation triggers an unexpected restart of the controller node.NOTE: The same violation can also occur if two group snapshots are being taken at the same time, and there are VVs which are members of both the groups. For example, Remote Copy uses group snapshots for its periodic sync activity. Therefore, remote copy group snapshot activity could collide with manual user CLI snapshot creation, user scripted snapshot commands, scheduled tasks (scheduler) driven snapshot or group snapshot commands. This could result in controller node restarts.Until this issue is resolved, users should take care in setting the schedule of tasks that create single or group snapshots. These schedules should be set such that they do not collide or coincide with other scheduled tasks that create snapshots of VVs which are members of both schedules. In addition, manual snapshot creation of the same VV should be avoided while a scheduled task is taking its snapshot.
This issue affects HP 3PAR S-Class, E-Class, T-Class, and F-Class InServ systems running InForm operating system 2.3.1 MU2.
This issue is resolved in InForm 2.3.1 MU2 P12, which is now available. This issue is also resolved in InForm 2.3.1 MU3, which released in January 2011.
