Compaq has identified a potential overheating issue in a limited number of low-voltage Compaq R3000 XR Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) models that will require the immediate return and replacement of all Compaq UPS R3000 XR (Low Voltage) models with serial numbers that fall within the range TS46XXXXXX through TT09XXXXXX. Under medium to high load conditions, a failure may occur within the UPS, resulting in loss of electrical output to some output load segments and overheating of the UPS.NOTE: UPS serial numbers are located on the metal battery bracket behind the front bezel of the unit, as well as on the top panel of the UPS directly above the power receptacles.The event only occurs if medium to high loads are connected to any of the six NEMA5-15R power receptacles of the UPS. Any UPS load connection where only the NEMAL5-30R receptacle is being used would not be affected by this issue. However, all units,including those in which only the NEMA L5-30R receptacle is being used, must be replacedif they fall within the affected serial number range identified below.The problem is caused by a manufacturing issue, which has since been corrected.IMPORTANT: The High Voltage R3000 XR UPS models are NOT affected.

Stop using the equipment immediately. If that is not possible, then reconfigure so that there are output loads only through the NEMA L5-30R receptacle.In order to minimize the risk of exposure to this potential overheating issue, Compaq is requiring proactive replacement of all Compaq UPS R3000 XR (Low Voltage) models that fall within the serial number range TS46XXXXXX through TT09XXXXXX that DO NOT have an 8D T030101-01 label.Compaq Spares Kits and Option Kits with UPS units within the serial number rangeTS46XXXXXX through TT09XXXXXX are being inspected by Compaq and the UPSmanufacturer to ensure that affected models are replaced.
