An issue has been identified where an errant behavior may occur in a specific Peer Persistence Remote Copy failover scenario when using HPE Quorum Witness (QW) configured with a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN). The ATF process queries the Domain Name Server (DNS) for FQDN resolution and, if the DNS does not respond in a timely manner, can introduce delays registering quorum failure events. This behavior is observed when the HPE QW is configured using an FQDN. The DNS resolution process introduces latency on the primary array, which impacts the timing of the ATF operation and may allow hosts to have access to both array's replicated volumes.NOTE: To minimize failover delays and ensure consistent ATF behavior, HPE recommends configuring the HPE QW using its IP address instead of an FQDN.Here is an example ofincorrectGroup Information status:# showrcopy -dRemote Copy System InformationStatus: Started, NormalHere is an example ofcorrectGroup Information status:# showrcopy -dRemote Copy System InformationStatus: Started, NormalAfter the group has failed over to the partner array, the original secondary array is now in a "Primary-Rev" role and is reporting the expected status:# showrcopy -dRemote Copy System InformationStatus: Started, Normal
This advisory applies to the following HPE Storage products:HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000HPE Alletra Storage 9000HPE Primera 600 Storage
NOTE: If the SSL is in use with FQDN, the SSL certificates will have to be re-created. For detailed information on this process, refer toConfiguring HPE Quorum Witness for HPE Primera 600, HPE Alletra 9000, or HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000 systems | Using Data Ops Manager.NOTE: To avoid allowing both arrays to present the Remote Copy Group's VLUNs at the same time, HPE recommends utilizing the IP address, notthe FQDN./reconfiguring HPE QW to use the IP address (10.10.10.24) instead of FQDN (A_QW_Server.rcopy.net)** Verify that the FQDN has been used during prior configuration:cli% showrcopy -qw targets (both arrays)Remote Copy System InformationStatus: Started, Normal** Stop HPE Quorum Witnesscli% setrcopytarget witness stop <target name>cli% setrcopytarget witness stop c3-array-s4550cli% setrcopytarget witness stop -remote <target name>cli% setrcopytarget witness stop -remote c3-array-s4550** Remove HPE Quorum Witness FQDNcli% setrcopytarget witness remove -remote <target name>cli% setrcopytarget witness remove -remote c3-array-s4550cli% setrcopytarget witness remove <target name>cli% setrcopytarget witness remove c3-array-s4550** HPE QW configured using IP "10.10.10.24"cli% setrcopytarget witness create <QW IP> <target name>cli% setrcopytarget witness create 10.10.10.24 c3-array-s4550cli% setrcopytarget witness create -remote <QW IP> <target name>cli% setrcopytarget witness create -remote 10.10.10.24 c3-array-s4550** Start the HPE QW servicecli% setrcopytarget witness start <target name>cli% setrcopytarget witness start c3-array-s4550cli% setrcopytarget witness start -remote <target name>cli% setrcopytarget witness start -remote c3-array-s4550** Verify that the change was established: (both arrays)cli% showrcopy -qw targetsRemote Copy System InformationStatus: Started, NormalThis issue will be addressed in a future release.
