On any HPE ProLiant DX380 Gen10 Plus server configured with any of the HPE MR Gen10 Plus controllers listed in the Scope section, the firmware update may fail if it was attempted more than once without performing a system reboot or if the controller experienced a reset.Per chip design, any of the affected HPE MR Gen10 Plus controllers require a system reboot after attempting the firmware update. Updating the firmware more than once without performing a system reboot may result in canceling the previous attempted firmware update.NOTE: Under certain conditions, any of the affected HPE MR Gen10 Plus controllers may experience a reset during the firmware update. When that occurs, the HPE MR Gen10 Plus controller may display the new firmware version, even though the server was not rebooted. If this occurs, the system needs to be rebooted to ensure the HPE MR Gen10 Plus controller is not only running the new firmware, but that all resources are aligned and synced with the System BIOS on boot.
This advisory applies to any HPE ProLiant DX380 Gen10 Plus server configured with either of the following HPE MR Gen10 Plus controllers:HPE MR216i-a Gen10 Plus x16 Lanes without Cache NVMe/SAS 12G Controller (P26325-B21)HPE MR216i-p Gen10 Plus x16 Lanes without Cache NVMe/SAS 12G Controller (P26324-B21)
To resolve this issue, perform either of the following:Reboot the server to ensure the HPE MR Gen10 Plus controller is in a default state (no pending firmware). Check the firmware version of the HPE MR Gen10 Plus controller.ORPower down the server and physically remove power from the server for 10 seconds. This will ensure the HPE MR Gen10 Plus controller is in a default state (no pending firmware) on the next boot. Check the firmware version of the controller. If the HPE MR Gen10 Plus controller is not running the desired firmware version, attempt another firmware update while the controller is in the default state (no pending firmware).Only attempt/send the "MR firmware package" file (example: HPE_MR216i-a_Gen10P_XX.XX.X-XXXX-X.fwpkg) once. After attempting the firmware update, immediately reboot the server. After rebooting, verify that the HPE MR Gen10 Plus controller is now running the intended firmware version.Revision HistoryDocument VersionRelease DateDetails2January 17, 2025Replaced the first paragraph in the Description section, adding extra information1January 2, 2025Original Document Release
