On an HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12 with an Intel processors that support Intel QuickAssist Technology (QAT) feature and running Enterprise Linux distributions such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.4, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP6 and Ubuntu 24.04, the following kernel error messages are observed:[ 7.448283] 4xxx 0000:01:00.0: enabling device (0140 -> 0142)[ 7.456559] 4xxx 0000:01:00.0: Direct firmware load for qat_402xx_mmp.bin failed with error -2[ 7.456564] 4xxx 0000:01:00.0: Failed to load MMP firmware qat_402xx_mmp.bin[ 7.456570] 4xxx 0000:01:00.0: Failed to load acceleration FW[ 7.457112] 4xxx 0000:01:00.0: Resetting device qat_dev0[ 7.568591] 4xxx: probe of 0000:01:00.0 failed with error -14This occurs because the system is missing the necessary Intel QAT device firmware files.This is not HPE-specific.
Any HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12 with an Intel processor that supports Intel QAT and running recent Enterprise Linux distributions, such as: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.4, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP6 and Ubuntu 24.04.
Update the Linux firmware packages available on the Linux distribution website to the latest version as follows:Red HatEnterprise Linux 9.4:linux-firmware is greater than or equal to version 20240716-143.2.SUSE LinuxEnterprise Server 15 SP6:kernel-firmware-all is greater than or equal to version 20240712-150600.3.3.1.Ubuntu24.04:linux-firmware is greater than or equal to version 20240318.git3b128b60-0ubuntu2.3.
