When migrating from an HPE Synergy Composer to Composer2, the standby appliance will not join the cluster because of an alert containing the following message:<Composer's serial #> Cannot join the appliance cluster because this appliance cannot communicate with its frame. The frame <Composer's Serial #> might be claimed by another applianceThis may occur if the hardware clock for Composer2 is set eight hours into the future. HPE has been determined that several Composer2 appliances shipped from the factory with their hardware clock set eight hours ahead. This can cause the following conditions:The time for the Active (Primary) Composer2 must be adjusted in the User Interface to the correct time and this will cause a reboot to adjust the time. The Standby Composer will not join the cluster for eight hours. To determine if the hardware clock is set in the future, perform the following steps:Use the Composer's Serial port.Log into the maintenance account at the "login as" prompt.Note: Unconfigured Composers will have the default username/password.Select "[L] Launch service console."The (by XXXX-XX-XX XX:XX UTC) timestamp should only be one hour into the future. If the timestamp is greater than an hour, the hardware clock is set in the future.
Any HPE Synergy Composer or Composer2 that is new from the factory, prior to February 2021.
This issue will be corrected in a future HPE Synergy Composer2 shipped from the factory with the correct hardware clock. As a workaround, select one of the following options to reset the hardware clock:Active ComposerIf the Active (Primary) Composer has an incorrect time, reset the time from the User Interface (UI) during the normal setup process.Standby ComposerSeveral options are available if the Standby Composer has an incorrect time setting. Select one of the following:After eight hours, the Composer will join the cluster because the certificates are no longer dated ahead. Waiting will always ensure that the Standby Composer's time adjusts to match the Active Composer's time.ORWithout running hardware setup, use the serial console to configure the Standby with a temporary TCPIP address. This will allow access to adjust the time via the UI.After the time is corrected, reimage the Standby Composer and the frame will communicate because all certificates are created with the current time. This will also allow the Standby Composer to join the cluster.Note: The TCPIP addresses used here are only temporary. The reimage will not reuse these addresses.Click the following URL to locate the HPE Customer Support phone number in your country:TECHNICAL SUPPORT PHONE NUMBERSRECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES: Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively in your e-mail through HPE Subscriber's Choice.
