The HPE Synergy 4610C 10/25G Ethernet adapter has been observed to have intermittent link issues with the Mellanox SH2200 Switch for HPE Synergy platforms with VMware ESXi as a Host Operating System (OS) and AutoNeg (AN) turned on.Both the HPE Synergy 4610C 10/25G Ethernet adapter and Mellanox SH2200 switch are AN capable devices. If the HPE Synergy 4610C 10/25G Ethernet adapter is configured to AN and the Mellanox SH2200 switch is configured to 25GbE, an anomaly is observed where an intermittent link flap causes the switch to default back to AN, which in turn causes link not to be established. If both the switch and network adapter are set to 25 GbE forced speed, the issue is not observed.Once a link is disabled and brought back up online with AN enabled on both devices, it could take up to 500 seconds for the link to be established. In lab test results with AutoNeg ON and a 200 second delay time between link flaps, failure is intermittently observed. When delay time between link flap is set to 500 seconds wait time, the test passes successfully. In 25 GbE forced speed mode with AutoNeg disabled on both devices, link is established in less than 30 seconds and link flap test iterations pass successfully.
Any HPE Synergy 4610C 10/25G Ethernet adapter. This issue may occur with all VMware ESXi releases and all versions of firmware for this card.
This issue is not seen if both the switch and network adapter are set to 25 GbE forced speed.Executing the "no-autoneg" command in the Mellanox SH2200 Switch for HPE Synergy (interface ethernet 1/15 speed 25G no-autoneg) will force speed to 25G. If the link goes up or down, speed will still remain at 25G.Note: if executing the command without the "no-autoneg" option but with the force command instead (interface ethernet 1/15 speed 25G force), link will revert back to autoneg if were to be link disabled and re-enabled.
