Document VersionRelease DateDetails203/01/2019Updated the Resolution with the HPE Synergy Software Releases to permanent fix the issue.102/19/2019Original Document Release. In HPE OneView 4.10.04 for Synergy, with HPE Virtual Connect (VC) SE 40Gb F8 Module for HPE Synergy in a Firmware Version 1.3.X environment, a VMware ESXi server that is rebooted from VMware vCenter may experience network connection flapping for some period of time (as long as 40 minutes or more) immediately after its soft reboot. The issue may be triggered by a soft reboot of the ESXi server done either via vCenter, SSH to ESXi console, or via ESXi Direct Console User Interface (DCUI) connection when the configuration is with Virtual Port Link Aggregation Groups (VPLAGs) in the compute modules of OneView's Server Profile and vCenter is configured with Link Aggregation Groups (LAG) using this OneView VPLAG connection.Occasionally, this flapping issue may be compounded by other conditions that can lead other servers to randomly lose their network connection. OneView may repeatedly delete, then recreate the S-Channel associated with the VPLAG group. This will cause a race condition and the Virtual Connect (VC) firmware to stop functioning. When the VC firmware stops functioning, a network outage may occur and the affected ESXi servers lose complete network connection.
Any HPE Virtual Connect (VC) SE 40Gb F8 Module for HPE Synergy on Firmware Version 1.3.X with Synergy servers configured with Link Aggregation Groups (LAG) and server profiles configured with Virtual Port Link Aggregation Groups (VPLAG) that are managed by HPE OneView 4.10.04.
This issue is resolved by upgrading both HPE OneView 4.20 and Virtual Connect Firmware Version 1.4.0, available from the HPE Synergy Software Releases page:http://www.hpe.com/downloads/SynergyNOTE: To fix the issue(s), upgrades for both OneView 4.20 and Virtual Connect Firmware Version 1.4.0 will be needed. As a workaround to prevent issues from occurring, use one of the following options:Do not perform a soft reboot of the VMware ESXi server; instead, power the server off and on using OneView.ORDisable VPLAG in the OneView Server Profile and VMware vCenter for the LAG configuration. If an issue(s) described in the Description has already occurred, contact HPE Support:Click on the following URL to locate the HPE Customer Support phone number in your country:https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/Getdocument.aspx?docname=A00039121ENWRECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES: Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively via e-mail through HPE Subscriber's Choice.
