On any HPE ProLiant server running VMware ESXi 6.0 or VMware ESXi 6.5, and configured with any of the Host Bus Adapters listed in the Scope section below, if a firmware update is performed via either of the following components:HPE Firmware Flash for Emulex Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters for VMware vSphere 6.0 version 2018.09.02(27 Sep 2018)HPE Firmware Flash for Emulex Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters for VMware vSphere 6.5 version 2018.09.02(27 Sep 2018)And if the firmware component is deployed via HPE OneView/Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP)/Smart Update Manager (SUM); a message will be displayed stating "reboot required", and the system will not reboot automatically.These two components are included in the Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) Version 2018.09.0. Other update methods which depend on this (such as online firmware deployments via HPE OneView or Smart Update Manager) may also display this message erroneously.This condition occurs due to other firmware files being present in the smart components listed above which require a reboot to activate. The Host Bus Adapters in the scope section below do not need the system to be rebooted in order to activate the new firmware after deploying the smart component; however, the smart component will still display the reboot message.

This message is erroneous and can be safely ignored as long as no other smart components have been deployed on the system which require a system reboot.The firmware on the Host Bus Adapters listed in the scope section should be successfully updated without any reboots.
