Spare part numbers for the discontinued STHB drives are transitioning to alternate drive models and spare part numbers listed in Table 1. This advisory outlines how to prepare for this transition.A transition period, extending up to 1 March 2019, is provided to prepare HPE 3PAR StoreServ arrays to accept the new alternate replacement drive models. The majority of HPE 3PAR StoreServ arrays will require only an HPE 3PAR StoreServ OS patch to accept the alternate replacement drive. This is a one-time operation that is done online and will not impact the use or performance of the array. To prepare for this transition, perform the following steps:Identify all HPE 3PAR StoreServ 7000, 8000, 10000, and 20000 arrays with one or more STHB drive installed by using the HPE 3PAR StoreServ Management Console (SSMC) or the following HPE 3PAR CLI command:cli% showpd -i -p -devid STHB0600S5xeN010,STHB1200S5xeN010,STHB1800S5xeN010,STHB1200S5xeF010For each array with one or more STHB drives installed, refer to Table 2 for a list of required actions, based on the current HPE 3PAR StoreServ OS version and patch level of the array. If needed, based on Table 2, plan and schedule the installation of the appropriate patch and/or the HPE 3PAR StoreServ OS update.HPE 3PAR StoreServ 7000, 8000 and 9000 systems support the option of customers performing OS updates, along with Service Processor (SP) updates, with the exception of SP 4.x to 5.x updates. We urge customers to refer to the relevant update and release note documentation and to carefully review the dependencies of various host environments provided in the information library. If you are not confident in updating or applying patches, contact Global Deployment Services (GDS) as documented below.Link to Information Library:https://www.hpe.com/info/storage/docs/HPE 3PAR StoreServ 10000 and 20000 systems DO NOT support the customer performing OS updates. Contact the GDS as documented below.Contacting the Global Deployment Services (GDS):Please refer to the following article to request a 3PAR StoreServ OS patch or update:https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-a00061484en_usNOTE: To assist customers with the installation of the alternate drive patches, the HPE Global Deployment Center (GDC) will Auto-Stage the appropriate patches to those HPE-maintained arrays that require them, and where authorized by customers. After the transition period has elapsed, failed STHB drives will be replaced with the newer equivalent alternate drive model, as shown in Table 1. If the array is not at the necessary OS/patch level shown to accept the alternate replacement (refer to Table 2), the patch must be installed prior to the drive replacement. This can lead to a delay in replacing a failed drive on the array and potentially, if multiple drives fail, to data unavailability. If the required patch is already staged on the array, the HPE Customer/Field Engineer can install the patch prior to replacing the drive, thus reducing the overall delay. If the array requires more than a patch (such as an MU or OS update), a plan should be in place to update the array to the appropriate HPE 3PAR StoreServ OS version and patch level prior to 1 March 2019. It is critical to note the following:Beginning 1 March 2019, availability of the original STHB spare part numbers cannot be guaranteed. With a failed drive, an MU or full OS update of the HPE 3PAR StoreServ array can only proceed in an offline manner. Therefore, HPE strongly recommends that HPE 3PAR StoreServ arrays be proactively updated prior to 1 March 2019 to accept the alternate replacement drive models.Table 1 - STHB Alternate Replacement DrivesSystem ModelDrive CapacityEncryptionEOL Drive Model Number(CLI command: showpd -i)EOL Drive Spare PartAlternate Replacement Drive Model NumberAlternate Replacement Spare Part7000600GBNot encryptedSTHB0600S5xeN010840456-001SSKB0600S5xeN010P03797-00170001200GBNot encryptedSTHB1200S5xeN010840457-001SSKB1200S5xeN010P03798-00170001800GBNot encryptedSTHB1800S5xeN010840462-001SSKB1800S5xeN010P03799-00170001200GBEncryptedSTHB1200S5xeF010873888-001SSKB1200S5xeF010P03800-0018000600GBNot encryptedSTHB0600S5xeN010840458-001SSKB0600S5xeN010P03797-00180001200GBNot encryptedSTHB1200S5xeN010840459-001SSKB1200S5xeN010P03798-00180001800GBNot encryptedSTHB1800S5xeN010840460-001SSKB1800S5xeN010P03799-00180001200GBEncryptedSTHB1200S5xeF010875659-001SSKB1200S5xeF010P03800-00110000600GBNot encryptedSTHB0600S5xeN010844288-001SSKB0600S5xeN010P03809-001100001200GBNot encryptedSTHB1200S5xeN010844270-001SSKB1200S5xeN010P03810-001100001800GBNot encryptedSTHB1800S5xeN010844285-001SSKB1800S5xeN010P03811-001100001200GBEncryptedSTHB1200S5xeF010P01032-001SSKB1200S5xeF010P03812-00120000600GBNot encryptedSTHB0600S5xeN010840463-001SSKB0600S5xeN010P03805-001200001200GBNot encryptedSTHB1200S5xeN010840464-001SSKB1200S5xeN010P03806-001200001800GBNot encryptedSTHB1800S5xeN010840465-001SSKB1800S5xeN010P03807-001200001200GBEncryptedSTHB1200S5xeF010875658-001SSKB1200S5xeF010P03808-001Table 2 - Action matrix to transition to alternate replacement drive modelsCurrent HPE 3PAR StoreServ OS version(CLI command: showversion -b)Required action to accept alternate replacement driveNOTE: Patch numbers may become obsolete by one or more subsequent patches.
