On certain HPE ProLiant servers running VMware ESXi 6.0 U3 with the vmklinux driver tg3: 3.137l, and configured with any of the network adapters listed in the Scope section below, the HPE Broadcom NX1 Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for VMware 1.14.5 (also known as the Broadcom NX1 Firmware component CP028672.zip) may display a "Self Inventory error. Failed to execute component" error message at Smart Update Manager (SUM) inventory page with Post Production Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) Version Gen8.0 and post production Gen7.1 Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP). This occurs due to an incompatible flash library in the firmware component.

Donwload and Install the HPE Broadcom NX1 Online Firmware Upgrade Utility standalone component, by performing the following steps: Download the HPE Broadcom NX1 Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for VMware Version 1.17.15(12 Jul 2017) located at the following URL: http://h20564.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX_f310dedecf314aeba7302fd5c5 Login as root. (You must be root in order to apply the update.) Place the Smart Component (CPxxxxxx.zip) in a temporary directory From the same directory, unzip the Smart Component: unzip CPxxxxxx.zip Ensure that the file CPxxxxxx.vmexe is executable. Execute the commmand: chmod +x CPxxxxxx.vmexe To perform the standalone installation, execute the command: ./CPxxxxxx.vmexe Follow the directions given by the Smart Component Reboot the system for firmware update to take effect If a firmware installation is required on other adapters, perform the following steps: Reboot the server. Disable the Broadcom Network Adapter using the HP ROM-Based Setup. Utility (RBSU) by pressing the F9 key during Power-On Self-Test (POST). Select BIOS / Platform Configuration. Select the PCI Device Enable/Disable Option, and disable the adapter. Reboot the server. Proceed with the Post Production Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) Version Gen8.0 or Post Production Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) Version Gen7.0 installation. Reboot the server. Go to the HP ROM-Based Setup. Utility (RBSU) by pressing the F9 key during Power-On Self-Test (POST). Select BIOS / Platform Configuration. Select the PCI Device Enable/Disable Option, and enable the adapter. Reboot the server.
