On any of the HPE Networking Router series listed in the Scope section below, when Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) is configured on the switch/router, memory leaks may occur every time the BGP peer information MIB is read via Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) protocol.If this continues, the error messages reporting memory or resource shortages will be logged and eventually the switch/router will not be able to continue working correctly unless it is rebooted.

To resolve this issue upgrade to CMW710-R0415 (or later).List of resolved problems:201609090290Symptom: Memory leak occurs when an NMS reads BGP peer information from the MIB.Condition: This symptom might occur if BGP is configured on the router, and an NMS reads BGP peer information from the MIB.To find the whole list of Resolved problems in CMW710-R0415, refer to the following URL:http://h20566.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=a00003185en_usTo diagnose if this issue occurs or not, perform the following steps:In probe view, determine the process ID of bgpd.display process | include bgpdCheck the memory usage of bgpd.display process memory heap job <process ID of bgpd> verboseYou will see many instances of 0.0% of free ratio in a large size of chunks, and the size of total allocated memory will be very close to total of virtual/physical memory heap space, as shown in the following example:==[probe]display process | include bgpd560 560 0.0 7.0 S 120 N - 00:11:34 bgpd --vrf --vpnv4 --vp31073273107327 0.0 0.0 S 120 N pts/0 00:00:00 grep -E bgpd[probe]display process memory heap job 560 verboseHeap usage:Size Free Used Total Free Ratio16 31 289 320 9.7%24 3100 313 3413 90.8%32 114 3322 3436 3.3%40 199 136 335 59.4%48 145 4542 4687 3.1%56 21 363 384 5.5%64 69 368 437 15.8%72 3 127 130 2.3%80 9 96 105 8.6%88 10 105 115 8.7%96 8 7 15 53.3%104 1 3 4 25.0%120 28 1061 1089 2.6%128 3 35 38 7.9%160 145 1082 1227 11.8%192 62 1384 1446 4.3%224 15 101 116 12.9%256 16 96 112 14.3%288 9 15 24 37.5%320 4 12 16 25.0%352 1 0 1 100.0%384 1 0 1 100.0%416 3 4 7 42.9%448 2 1 3 66.7%480 1 0 1 100.0%544 4 12 16 25.0%576 4 11 15 26.7%608 3 0 3 100.0%672 2 1 3 66.7%704 10 0 10 100.0%736 1 0 1 100.0%800 8 7 15 53.3%832 0 1 1 0.0%960 0 6 6 0.0%1024 4 12 16 25.0%1536 10 53 63 15.9%2048 0 19 19 0.0%2560 4 11 15 26.7%4096 0 3 3 0.0%4104 0 1 1 0.0%4120 0 3 3 0.0%4136 0 41 41 0.0%4160 0 1 1 0.0%4480 0 2 2 0.0%4824 1 0 1 100.0%5944 1 0 1 100.0%6176 0 82236 82236 0.0%8200 0 9 9 0.0%8216 0 1 1 0.0%8232 0 1 1 0.0%8936 0 1 1 0.0%10888 0 1 1 0.0%12808 0 3 3 0.0%14888 0 1 1 0.0%16376 0 1 1 0.0%16392 0 9 9 0.0%16408 0 3 3 0.0%22488 0 1 1 0.0%24888 0 2 2 0.0%25608 0 2 2 0.0%32024 0 2 2 0.0%36864 0 29 29 0.0%40960 0 1 1 0.0%69632 0 7 7 0.0%135168 0 10 10 0.0%167936 0 2 2 0.0%266240 0 11 11 0.0%528384 0 35 35 0.0%1052672 0 1 1 0.0%2101248 0 3 3 0.0%Summary:Total virtual memory heap space(in bytes) : 576929792Total physical memory heap space(in bytes) : 572407808Total allocated memory(in bytes) : 541955952==As a workaround to stop the memory leak and to stop retrieving the BGP MIB, perform following command:==snmp-agent mib-view excluded ViewDefault bgp==RECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES: Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively via e-mail through HPE Subscriber's Choice.
