HPE recommends installing VMware ESXi 6.0 Patch Release ESXi600-201611001 Build 4600944 on HPE Hyper Converged 380 systems. The patch can be applied to Hyper Converged 380 systems at Version 1.0 Update 1 ( Version 1.0 U1) or Version 1.1 Update 2 (Version 1.1 U2). If the Hyper Converged 380 system is at the originally shipped Version 1.0, update the system to Version 1.1 U2 before applying the VMware ESXi 6.0 patch.

Follow the procedure below to apply VMware ESXi 6.0 Patch release ESXi600-201611001 Build 4600944 to Hyper Converged 380 systems. Apply the patch to the nodes sequentially, completing the installation on one node before starting the next: 1. Using a Remote Desktop Connection, access the Hyper Converged 380 system Management VM. See the HPE Hyper Converged 380 Installation Guide for information on configuring a Windows laptop or workstation to access the system. 2. Download VMware ESXi 6.0 Patch Release ESXi600-201611001Build 4600944 to the Management VM from https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/patch#search , using your myvmware account: 3. Launch the HPE StoreVirtual Centralized Management Console (CMC) and log in as an administrator. 4. Launch the VMware vSphere client and log in as an administrator. 5. From within the StoreVirtual CMC, power off the StoreVirtual VSA associated with the Hyper Converged 380 node to be updated: a. In the left navigation pane, expand the Storage Cluster, then expand Storage Systems. b. Right-click the desired VSA storage system and select Power Off or Reboot. c. Select the Power Off radio button and set the Delay to 0 minutes. Click Power Off. d. Click Power Off System. e. Click Power Off in the confirmation window. f. Click Yes in the warning message. g. Click OK in the confirmation and logout warning window. 6. After the StoreVirtual VSA powers down, use the VMware vSphere client to set the node to Maintenance Mode. 7. Upload the VMware ESXi patch file to the local datastore folder on the node. The default name for the local datastore folder is "datastore1" or "datastore1(n)," where "n" represents a number, unless the name was changed following installation. 8. Open an SSH session as the root user to the node being patched. a. Verify the current scsi-hpsa version that is installed. It should be version 118: b. Run the "esxcli update" command: NOTE: Do not run the "esxcli install" command option. The command will overwrite the scsi-hpsa VIB with an older version. The local datastore will not be visible after a reboot. If the command was accidentally used, simply reboot the node again and it will revert back to its original configuration. c. Reboot the node. 9. After the node completes booting, verify the updated VMware ESXi version in VMware vCenter. The updated version should be VMware ESXi, 6.0.0, 4600944. 10. Using the VMware vSphere client, remove the node from Maintenance Mode. 11. Power on the StoreVirtual VSA for the newly patched node. 12. Wait 5 minutes, then verify the status of the StoreVirtual VSA in the StoreVirtual CMC. There should not be any restriping in progress, and all volumes should indicate a "Normal" status: 13. Repeat steps 4 through 11 for each node in the Hyper Converged 380 system.
