Identical NetBIOS and DNS hostnames on multiple computers on a network displays the following symptoms and lead to degraded performance: NetBIOS conflicts DNS issues Unexpected behaviors such as: Network communication errors Resource access problems Low virtual memory warnings Affected Platforms: Dell Pro 24 All-in-One QC24250 Dell Pro 24 All-in-One QC24251 Dell Pro 24 All-in-One Plus QB24250
These networks are designed for each computer to have a unique hostname for both the NetBIOS and DNS within the same network.
The following Microsoft guide explains their requirements when setting up a computer name: Name computers, domains, sites, and OUs - Windows Server Instructions on renaming the computer name: Open the Windows settings. Go to the system settings page. Click Rename on the system settings page. Enter a new computer name following the requirements from Microsoft. Click Next . Restart the computer when prompted. Confirm that the name change has taken place.
