Dell Z9264 switches will only allow breakout cables to be connected to odd ports. If attempting to connect a nodes breakout cable to an even port number, the port will not come and be listed as "no carrier". mlxen0: flags=1008843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST,ISIINTERNAL> metric 0 mtu 9000 options=ed07bb<RXCSUM,TXCSUM,VLAN_MTU,VLAN_HWTAGGING,JUMBO_MTU,VLAN_HWCSUM,TSO4,TSO6,LRO,VLAN_HWFILTER,VLAN_HWTSO,LINKSTATE,RXCSUM_IPV6,TXCSUM_IPV6> ether 00:00:00:00:00:00 hwaddr 00:00:00:00:00:00 inet 128.221.252.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 128.221.252.255 zone 1 inet 128.221.254.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 128.221.254.255 zone 1 inet6 fe80::0000:0000:0000:0000%mlxen0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x5 zone 1 inet6 fdfe:9042:c53d:0:0000:0000:0000:0000 prefixlen 64 zone 1 nd6 options=21<PERFORMNUD,AUTO_LINKLOCAL> media: Ethernet autoselect (10Gbase-CX4 <full-duplex,rxpause,txpause>) status: no carrier The documentation on this platform can be found here: https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-cr/networking-z9100/smartfabric-os-user-guide-10-5-0/z9264f-on-port-group-profiles?guid=guid-a19b1077-87b6-49db-8593-a577f4872f2a&lang=en-us hybrid-group profile Ports Mode port-group1/1/1 restricted 1/1/1 Eth 10g-4x 1/1/2 Eth Disabled port-group1/1/2 restricted 1/1/3 Eth 10g-4x 1/1/4 Eth Disabled port-group1/1/3 restricted 1/1/5 Eth 10g-4x 1/1/6 Eth Disabled
Port profiles on the switch only allow odd ports to be connected to breakout cables. Once a breakout cable is connected, the corresponding even port is disabled.
Breakout cables can only be used in odd number ports on a Dell Z9264 Ethernet switch. Request that the CE performing the install or the customer provide what port number they are attempting to use on the switch.
