HBA firmware upgrade on 456972-B21 8Gb Emulex mezzanine HBA results in link going offline when HP 4Gb pass through module is used as interface between HBA and 8Gb FC switch (8 Gb Emulex mezzanine HBA -> 4Gb FC Pass Thru -> HP SN6000 Fibre Channel Switch). As a result of this, the storage behind this HBA will not be accessible. This is applicable only when the HBA speed is set to AUTO mode (default driver setting).IDENTIFICATIONOn HP-UX 11iv3 after upgrading the HBA firmware, port status remains in AWAITING_LINK_UP. This can be verified through fcmsutil <dsf> command.Description of the HBA in ioscan:HP 456972-B21 8Gb PCIe 2-port LPe1205 FC mezzanine HBAfcmsutil /dev/fclp0Vendor ID is = 0x10dfDevice ID is = 0xf100PCI Sub-system Vendor ID is = 0x103cPCI Sub-system ID is = 0x1719Chip version = 3Firmware Version = 2.02X2 SLI-3 (U3F2.02X2)EFI Version = UU6.10A0EFI Boot = ENABLEDDriver-Firmware Dump Available = NODriver-Firmware Dump Timestamp = N/APrevious Topology = UNINITIALIZEDLink Speed = UNKNOWNLocal N_Port_id is = NonePrevious N_Port_id is = NoneN_Port Node World Wide Name = 0x50060b0000c26619N_Port Port World Wide Name = 0x50060b0000c26618Switch Port World Wide Name = 0x0000000000000000Switch Node World Wide Name = 0x0000000000000000Driver state = AWAITING_LINK_UPThe 8Gb FC switch (SN6000) will not maintain any login sessions by the HBA port which is impacted.
Any of the following HP Integrity Blade System Emulex HBAs with firmware version 2.02X2 which uses HP 4Gb Pass thru module as an interface to connect to HP SN6000 8Gb FC switch in AUTO mode.8 Gb HBA’s: 456972-B21 8 Gb Emulex mezzanine HBA.8Gb Switch: HP SN6000 8Gb FC switch.Affected Operating System: HP-UX 11iv3.Affected software: FibrChanl-02.
HBA speed needs to be set to 4Gb explicitly in the preboot EFI (Extensible firmware interface) shell. Under Configure HBA parameters Force link option should be used to set the speed.Set the speed using the UEFI driver configuration utility for all affected ports explicitly:Locate driver handle by using ‘drivers’ command in EFI shell.Eg : driversOutput : C1 00040115 D X X 2 - Emulex SCSI Pass Thru DriverLocate the controller handle by running ‘devices’ command in EFI shell.Eg : devicesOutput : BF D X X 1 2 - LPe12002 PCIe 8Gb/s 2.5Gb/s, x8Run drvcfg –s <drv handle> <ctrl handle>Eg : drvcfg C1 BF –sOutput :Select the adapters “setup utility” option after selecting adapter in the main menu.Select HBA Parameters “Force Link Speed” option & set speed to 4GbOnce the speed is set to 4Gb, in all further scenarios UEFI driver and OS driver will operate at the 4Gb speed only. HBA speed needs to be reset to default if all HW components involved in the configuration operates at 8G and above.
