The HPE Cray XD225v motherboard and firmware recipe have been updated to support the latest AMD Turin processors; however, compatibility issues have been observed when mixing older revision boards (Rev002) with newer revision boards (Rev003) within the same chassis. These issues can cause unexpected shutdowns or system instability. This advisory provides guidance for resolving these issues, including the necessary firmware updates and compatibility requirements. When mixing (-002) BMC v1.82 with (-003) BMC v5.24, errors are logged as shown below, causing the system to shut down.
In the scenario described above, any HPE Cray XD225v.
To avoid the issues described above, consider the following: • Older BMC firmware versions (e.g., v1.82 or earlier) are not designed to support mixed board configurations with different firmware recipes. Systems configured this way may experience shutdowns. • Updating the BMC firmware to version v1.92 (or higher) resolves these compatibility issues, allowing Rev002 and Rev003 boards to coexist within the same chassis. • BMC v1.92 or v1.94 (Rev002) is fully compatible with BMC v5.24 or v5.40 (Rev003). • Mixing BMC v1.82 (Rev002) with BMC v5.24 (Rev003) leads to system shutdown events and is not supported.
