IMPORTANT: The System ROM upgrade is considered a critical fix and is required to correct the issue detailed below. HP strongly recommends immediate application of this critical fix. Neglecting to perform the required action could leave the server in an unstable condition, which could potentially result in sub-optimal server performance or server lock-ups or failures. By disregarding this notification and not performing the recommended resolution, the customer accepts the risk of incurring future related errors.ProLiant servers running Hypervisor host operating systems such as VMware ESX/ESXi 4.x (or later) may intermittently encounter a system reset or operating system unresponsiveness, such as a VMware ESX purple screen with the error message, "PCPUx locked up. Failed to ACK TLB Invalidate" when configured with all of the following:AMD Opteron 6100-series processors or Intel processorsASR enabledHP Common Information Model (CIM) Providers, HP Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) driver and HP Compaq ROM Utility (CRU) driver included with HP ESXi Offline Bundle for VMware ESXi 4.x (or later)ORHP Management Agents for VMware ESX 4.x only (Not for VMware ESXi 4.x)There are two conditions that may manifest themselves when this issue occurs:A purple screen similar to the one shown below may be displayed on the VMware ESXi host server.AND/ORThe host server may display hpq_cru@vmkernel:nover+0x396 stack: 0x0 on the last stack trace of the PCPU which failed to invalidate the TLB request in the VMkernel log file provided with the vmsupport log file obtained immediately following the failure.Note:Integrated Management Logs obtained from the server may also contain unrecoverable error messages such as the following:System Error 01/04/2011 06:44 An Unrecoverable System Error (NMI) has occurred (System error code 0x00000032, 0x10426844)Unknown NMI Class 20, Code 3Note:this problem was observed on ProLiant G7-series servers configured with AMD Opteron 6100 Series Processors running VMware ESXi 4.1, but may also occur on other servers with Intel processors installed or while running other Hypervisor operating systems. The following are examples of a purple screen that may be encountered and vmkernel log file entries:The following is an example of entries in the VMkernel log file where PCPU11 failed to ACK TLB request:0:01:43:09.314 cpu11:33292)ALERT: NMI: 2043: NMI IPI received.
