After updating NVIDIA HGX B300 GPU firmware to version 1.5.10 on HPE Cray XD690 systems, the BMC firmware inventory may temporarily display an incorrect HGX firmware version even though the firmware update completed successfully. This behavior may occur when validating firmware inventory immediately after updating NVIDIA HGX B300 GPU firmware to version 1.5.10.Although the GPU firmware update completes successfully, the BMC firmware inventory may not immediately reflect the updated firmware level until all required resets, power-cycle operations, and Embedded Root of Trust (ERoT) synchronization activities have completed. This issue affects firmware inventory reporting and validation activities only. No functional impact to GPU operation has been identified.
Any HPE Cray XD690 Systems with NVIDIA HGX B300 GPUs and:GPU Firmware: 1.5.10BIOS: 3.1.11BMC: 02.40.00
HPE recommends following the validated firmware update procedure below when updating or downgrading firmware on affected systems, as this issue does not occur when following the steps below:Update or downgrade the BMC firmware to the target version.Restore the BMC to factory defaults and allow initialization to complete (minimum 400 seconds).Update or downgrade the BIOS firmware and verify completion.Verify all GPU-related devices and firmware components are visible in BMC inventory.Update the GPU firmware and wait for completion.Wait an additional 200 seconds after the GPU firmware update completes.Execute the HGX BMC ResetToDefaults operation and wait a minimum of 200 seconds.Power off the system.Perform a FullPowerCycle.Allow the platform to complete POST, operating system startup, and any ERoT-related reboot activity before validating firmware inventory.Important Notes:The HPE Cray Compute XD690 BMC update process differs from that of standard HPE server platforms.Following BIOS updates, multiple automated reboots may occur as part of ERoT validation and synchronization operations. These reboots are expected behavior.Customers should not power-cycle, reset, shut down, or otherwise interrupt the system during automated reboot sequences.Firmware inventory should not be validated until all platform initialization and startup activities have completed.A BMC factory reset is required when transitioning between BMC firmware versions 2.37 and 2.40.
