When replacing an expired cleaning tape with no barcode in the HPE Storage 1/8 G2 Autoloader and the HPE Storage MSL2024 G3 Tape Library, the new cleaning tape placed in the same slot is incorrectly shown as expired. Consequently, the cleaning operation via the Remote Management Interface (RMI) will not function, displaying the message, "Cleaning Tape is expired."

When replacing an expired cleaning tape with no barcode, it is essential to use barcodes on the new cleaning tape to ensure proper functionality. Barcode labels can be purchased from theHPE Store.NOTE: Refer to the Scope section for the list of barcode label packs available. If purchasing labels is not feasible, follow these steps:Insert the new cleaning cartridge into the magazine and close it before removing the expired cleaning cartridge. This allows the library to identify the new cartridge.Load the new cleaning cartridge into the drive using the "Move Media" operation to clean the drive. This ensures the library recognizes the cartridge as a new cleaning cartridge.Open the magazine again and remove the expired cleaning cartridge from the library.IMPORTANT: Misusing and misunderstanding barcode technology can result in backup and restore failures. Always purchase barcode labels from an approved supplier to meet quality standards of HPE. Never print barcode labels yourself. For reliable operation, enable the Auto Clean feature for each partition with an LTO-7 (or later generation) tape drive and ensure the partition has a valid cleaning cartridge. The cleaning cartridge label must begin with the letters “CLN” for the library to recognize it as a cleaning cartridge. All HPE labels for cleaning cartridges end with “L1” media identifier characters.Additional Information:The library will operate without barcode labels on the cartridges. Using barcode labels in production environments improves inventory time in the library and eases cartridge handling processes outside the library. The host software may need to keep track of various information via the associated barcode, such as the date of format or initialization, the tape's media pool, data residing on the tape, age of the backup, and errors encountered while using the tape.
