An HPE ProLiant Flex Slot Power Supply Unit(s) (PSU) firmware update may fail with iLO 6 firmware version 1.69 or earlier. The iLO will display an error banner for error recovery:This occurs because the PSU received an incomplete PSU firmware image during the update process, resulting in a failed update. The HPE ProLiant Gen11 iLO 6 version 1.69 firmware (or earlier) does not support the Flex Slot Power Supply Unit (PSU) firmware update process.

1. Ensure all power supplies inserted into the server are energized, as it is not possible to apply this PSU firmware without the power supply being energized.2. This PSU firmware update process will follow the non-redundant path with a server with only one power supply energized but physically additional power supplies inserted but not energized.3. Ensure the server has been powered prior and past POST prior to starting this PSU firmware update process. A running OS is not necessary.4. Acquire:iLO 6 firmware to 1.70 or later: Drivers & software Online ROM Flash Firmware Package - HPE Integrated Lights-Out 6:https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/swd/detail?swItemId=MTX_b477a9a9095647b0b44abbe23fANDPSU Firmware 2.01 or later for 1000w P03160-102:Offline -Flexslot_Power_Supply_1000W_TitaniumOnline -OnlinePower Supply Flash Component for Linux - Flexslot_Power_Supply_1000W_TitaniumOnline -Flexslot_Power_Supply_1000W_TitaniumOnline Power Supply Flash Component for Windows - Flexslot_Power_Supply_1000W_Titanium5. Update the iLO 6 firmware to iLO 6 version 1.70 or later.6. For Offline updates, track PSU firmware progress.The PSU firmware update process will fail if PSU firmware file fails to upload into the energized power supply after three attempt three (3).In the iLO user interface or in a script, the client should wait for "Complete" before progressing.Script writers need to review and implement this monitoring documented at:https://servermanagementportal.ext.hpe.com/docs/redfishservices/ilos/supplementdocuments/updateservice/#waiting-for-uploads-to-complete7. Immediately perform a server cold boot upon the PSU firmware update completing on all the server's energized power supplies. This may be accomplished using the explicit Cold Boot option or performing a shutdown and manual boot.
