On any HPE platform running Linux/VMware ESXi/Microsoft Windows operating systems, and configured with any of the HPE Intel 810-based network adapters with firmware version 4.7x listed in the Scope section below; firmware upgrade failures have been observed when attempting to update the firmware to version 4.80 when using the following firmware smart components:Intel Columbiaville Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for VMwareIntel Columbiaville Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for Linux x86_64Intel Columbiaville Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for Windows Server x64 EditionsThis issue does not occur during upgrades from version 4.60 to version 4.80, which complete successfully.This issue occurs when running firmware version 4.7x due by a function race condition with the Management Component Transport Protocol (MCTP).

This condition is resolved in firmware version 4.80.To successfully update from firmware version 4.7, use the Platform Level Data Model (PLDM), which is also a recommended major firmware upgrade.As a workaround to perform an update via the firmware smart components, perform the following steps:Temporarily disable the Device Management Component Transport Protocol (MCTP) Inventory in HPE iLO.Perform a cold boot.Use the firmware smart component to update the firmware.After the firmware update is performed successfully, re-enable the Device Management Component Transport Protocol (MCTP) Inventory.Menu example to disable Management Component Transport Protocol (MCTP) in HPE iLO6 for all devices:
