The following message may appear in dmesg on HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12 servers running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 15 SP6:pci 0000:ab:04.0: BAR 13: failed to assign [io size 0x1000]Similarly, on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.4, 10 or potentially any future RHEL releases, related messages such as this may appear:pci 0000:79:06.0: bridge window [io size 0x1000]: failed to assign
Any HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12 platforms running a Linux operating system.
These messages occur because the BIOS pre-allocates IO resources to the PCIe bridges to facilitate hot-plug functionality. However, if no device is connected to these bridges, or if the connected device does not require the assigned IO resource, the operating system will not utilize this pre-allocation.Consequently, these messages can be safely disregarded as they do not indicate any operational issues.
Operating Systems Affected:Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.4, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15
