Detaching virtual functions from the Data Processing Unit (DPU) does not function in Ubuntu 22.04. The virtual detachment fails due to not having anything attached to detach.Due to limitations in the libvirt (8.0.0) package, Ubuntu is unable to recognize PCIe speeds of 32GT/s (PCIe 5) and higher; therefore, cannot attach Virtual Functions (VFs) to Virtual Machines (VMs) with Ubuntu 22.04.The failure of VF detachment on the HPE Data Processing Unit InfiniBand NDR200/Ethernet 200Gb 2-port QSFP112 FHHL B3220 Adapter in Ubuntu 22.04 can disrupt virtualized network functions, impacting both operational efficiency and resource management. This is observed when setting the Workload profile from UEFI System utilities (RBSU) menu to "Virtualization Max Performance."
Any HPE ProLiant Compute XD685 running Ubuntu 22.04 when detaching virtual functions from the DPU.
Use Ubuntu 24.04 or another OS. Canonical suggests moving to Ubuntu 24.04.libvirt is a user space package and not synced to kernel version, so backporting of new libvirt to 22.04 is not possible.
