On HPE Gen10, Gen10 Plus and Gen11 servers, the Integrated Remote Console (IRC) screen may become black (no video) when kept idle for a long duration with the USB selective suspend feature enabled in the Windows operating system.When this occurs, iLO users will not be able to access the Host console through the iLO IRC. Host continues to operate normally, and it is not affected.This occurs because the iLO Virtual Keyboard and mouse devices do not support the USB remote wakeup feature. With USB selective suspend is enabled on the host, the host may suspend the iLO USB virtual Keyboard and mouse device and iLO will not be able to wake up the host video if the video is put to sleep.
Any HPE Gen10, Gen10 Plus and Gen11 servers using any firmware version of iLO 5 or iLO 6 and running Microsoft Windows Server 2022 or Windows Server 2025.
As a workaround, disable the USB selective suspend feature in the operating system to prevent this issue.To disable USB selective suspend on a Windows operating system:Control Panel > Power Options > Change Advanced Power settings > USB settings-> USB Selective suspend settings.Configure the USB selective suspend settings as "Disabled."When the issue is encountered, attempt the following to recover the iLO IRC from this condition:Mount the iLO Virtual Media CD/DVD ROM through the iLO IRC. This may help recover iLO keyboard and mouse devices as well.If the above step does not help, try resetting iLO, followed by mounting of iLO Virtual Media through the iLO IRC.If the above steps do not help, then Host reboot should recover the IRC video output.This advisory will be updated if additional solutions become available.
