When a new server is powered on for the first time, AC power is applied for the first time, or the HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) is set to factory default settings, the front power LED may remain solid amber for 2–3 minutes before illuminating green.Note: the default setting for "Automatic - Power On" in RBSU is "Last Known State." For a new server, or when a server has been powered off before AC power is removed and restored, the system will not automatically power on. For this configuration, the power button must be pressed to power on the server once the LED illuminates green. The RBSU setting may be changed if automatic power-on is preferred.Once the LED illuminates green and the server powers on, both Power-On Self-Test (POST) and BIOS/Platform Configuration (RBSU) operate normally. This iLO boot sequence is expected behavior on Gen11 E3 platforms, as it requires additional time during the first initialization after power is applied. To speed up the boot process, follow the resolution steps provided below.
Any of the following:HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen11 systems shipped after December, 2024 or systems shipped before December, 2024 but with CPLD version 0x15.HPE ProLiant ML30 Server after launch.HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen11 servers without OCP configuration after launch. To check the CPLD firmware version, follow either option below:iLO web GUI > Firmware & OS Software > Firmware > System Programmable Logic DeviceORBoot the system and press F9 to enter RBSU > System configuration > System Information > System board information > System Programmable Logic Device/CPLD Version
To improve the boot time, HPE recommends either of the following options:Option 1:Access BIOS/Platform Configuration (RBSU) > Network Options, and temporarily change the Network Interface Adapter setting from the default "Shared Network Port-LOM" to "iLO Dedicated NIC".After saving the change and rebooting the system once, boot time can be reduced. At that point, go back into the RBSU, change the setting back toShared Network Port-LOM, save the change, and the system will continue to operate normally without needing another reboot.Option 2:Access the iLO WEB GUI and find iLO Shared Network Port > Select General and click Network interface adapter > Select Shared Network Port – Embedded NIC and apply > Reset iLO to change the network configuration > iLO will auto reset, wait 30s to save the changes > Check network setting has been changed -> the system will continue to operate normally and iLO will boot in around 50 seconds.Note that once one of the Options above is implemented, the iLO configuration file is modified and the boot up time will be set to around 50 seconds. This will remain even after removing AC power or rebooting the server, as long as the iLO settings are not reset to factory default.
