On any HPE platform configured with any of HPE Broadcom NetXtreme-E-based network adapters with NVM Image version 214.0.286015 (or prior) listed in the Scope section below; a Platform Level Data Model (PLDM) firmware update may fail when the update is performed using the "HPE Broadcom NetXtreme-E Firmware Package for BCM5741x adapters" component pack. When the Platform Level Data Model (PLDM) firmware failure occurs, the sumlog.txt file may contain error messages similar to the following:[INFO] :: Feb-07-2025 01:50:18:094 pm :: [nodeext.cpp:3507] :: bcm228.1.111000.Optimized.pup.fwpkg does not apply to this node. Reason: Device does not support PLDM UpdateThis issue occurs because the PLDM fwpkg file requires a minimum firmware version (NVM Image version 216.0.333011 or later) before a PLDM firmware update can be performed. This information is documented under the Installation Instructions tab of the "HPE Broadcom NetXtreme-E Firmware Package for BCM5741x adapters" component pack page.

To resolve the Platform Level Data Model (PLDM) firmware update issue, the network adapter must have NVM Image version 216.0.333011 (or later) installed and running before a PLDM firmware update can be performed. To update to NVM Image version 216.0.333011 (or later), use the "Online Firmware Upgrade Utility" either from the Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP), or download and install the "Online Firmware Upgrade Utility" manually:Update to NVM Image version 216.0.333011 (or later) using the Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP):The Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) contains the "Online Firmware Upgrade Utility" and the SPP can run in either offline mode or online mode. The firmware update can be performed either by booting from the SPP to update in offline mode or by running the SPP from the current running operating system and update the firmware in online mode.ORUpdate to NVM Image version 216.0.333011 (or later) using the Online firmware update utility manually:Download and install any of the following "Online Firmware Upgrade Utility" component versions (or later):HPE Broadcom NetXtreme-E Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for Windows Server x64 Editions Version 5.2.3.0 (or later)HPE Broadcom NetXtreme-E Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for Linux x86_64 Version 1.9.3 (or later)HPE Broadcom NetXtreme-E Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for VMware Version 5.11.6 (or later)Note:After updating to NVM Image version 216.0.333011 (or later) using the "Online Firmware Upgrade Utility", a reboot is required to enable the new firmware. Once the network adapter has NVM Image version 216.0.333011 (or later) installed and running, the Platform Level Data Model (PLDM) firmware update method ("firmware package" or "fwpkg" file) can be used to update to the latest version.
