On HPE ProLiant Gen11 servers with AMD EPYC 9xx4 series processors, updating the Platform Level Data Model (PLDM) firmware on Broadcom Adapters may fail in Integrated Lights-Out (iLO), if the iLO firmware is downgraded from version 1.63 (or newer) to a version older than 1.63.A new enhancement included in iLO firmware version 1.63 causes an issue for backward compatibility and prevents certain option devices from getting assigned with Management Component Transport Protocol (MCTP) endpoint IDs (EIDs). This EID assignment failure leads to a PLDM Firmware Update Failure on option devices.

Perform an AC power-cycle after the iLO firmware downgrade to resolve the issue.ORPerform an AC power-cycle only for the affected adapters to resolve the issue. To perform the AC power-cycle for affected adapters, follow the steps below:Perform a server reboot/boot.Boot to RBSU - System Utilities > System Configuration > BIOS/Platform Configuration (RBSU).Disable the adapter in the RBSU menu - PCIe Device Configuration > select the affected adapter > PCIe Device Disable: set it as Disabled.Reboot the server > Boot to RBSU.Enable the adapter in RBSU menu - PCIe Device Configuration > select the affected adapter -> PCIe Device Disable: set it as Auto.Reboot the server.ORRun the following iLO command to perform an AC power-cycle: https://$ilo/redfish/v1/Systems/1/Actions/Oem/Hpe/HpeComputerSystemExt.SystemReset/ with parameters {"ResetType": "AuxCycle"}.In addition, updating from lower iLO firmware version to 1.63 or higher will correct or prevent this issue.
