An HPE ProLiant Compute DL340 Gen12 server configured with the 8SFF Drive Cage Kit and without NVMe(Non-Volatile Memory Express) M.2 devices in the cage will experience higher than minimum fan speed/noise even at idle. To confirm, the fan speed can be observed under Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) - Thermal and Cooling.For this system, the expected minimum fan speed is 11% - 15%. In this scenario, the fan speed will rise up to 31% - 40%, as shown in the following picture:
