Any of the HPE Intel-based HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12 systems in the Scope section below and running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15, may experience multiple active watchdog modules being simultaneously active.These servers have an iTCO_wdt watchdog available implemented as part of the Intel processor and the HPE hpwdt watchdog. Recent releases of the Operating Systems will enable both watchdog modules by default and it is unknown which will be the primary watchdog in control of /dev/watchdog.

In order to set the HPE hpwdt watchdog as the primary watchdog device, disable the iTCO module by placing a file in the directory /etc/modprobe.d with a name ending in .conf, for example "itco_wdt.conf", containing the following line:blacklist iTCO_wdtThe change will take effect after the next reboot.
