"One-Button Secure Erase" (OBSE) should be used with extreme caution, and only when a system is being decommissioned. As such, using the HPE Intelligent Provisioning (IP) OBSE feature will result in all accessible storage drives and volumes being securely erased. There is no pop-up or any type of warning displayed in the application while performing OBSE in Intelligent Provisioning versions outlined in the Scope section. It is critical prior to implementing the "One-Button Secure Erase"(OBSE) to follow the instructions in the Resolution section below, which are also outlined in the HPE Intelligent Provisioning User Guides.Failure to follow the steps outlined in the HPE Intelligent Provisioning User Guides will result in all accessible storage-attached devices exposed to the server being securely erased. HPE will not be responsible for any loss arising from being erased by the Intelligent Provisioning "One-Button Secure Erase" (OBSE) option."One-Button Secure Erase" (OBSE) will securely erase any accessible, including without limitation, storage disk or volume.Examples of such accessible storage volumes are ones presented from an external SAN storage array or device. Other examples are a D3940 on an HPE Synergy Frame.HPE IP User Guides can be found at:https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/km/search#q=intelligent%20provisioning%20user%20guide&t=All&sort=relevancy&numberOfResults=25

To preserve the data on drives or storage volumes that you do not want to erase:For rack systems that support IP with external storage, remove the physical cables or remove the server from the SAN zoning, or remove the server from the storage presentation prior to such use.For HPE Synergy or HPE BladeSystem c7000 blades with non-Virtual Connect SAN- managed connections, either remove the server from the SAN zoning or remove the server from the storage presentation prior to such use.In all cases, for HPE Synergy or HPE BladeSystem c7000, remove the server profile as this ensures the removal of any Virtual Connect SAN-configured connections to any external storage and on a Synergy blade, this removes any connection to D3940 storage.Update HPE Intelligent Provisioning to the following versions, to ensure that the latest detection code is deployed:Systems with iLO 5 - Update HPE Intelligent Provisioning to Version 3.89:https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/swd/detail?swItemId=MTX_311438cccf3d4e418351c6db78Systems with iLO 6 - Update HPE Intelligent Provisioning to Version 4.32:https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/swd/detail?swItemId=MTX_8e5346cc1e0c45968863d6cbadThis advisory will be updated if additional solutions become available.
