On an HPE ProLiant ML30 Gen11 server, a Power Capping Firmware update may fail with a component-specific error or exception. This occurs because the PICGen11-1.x.x component is not for the Rack Power Supply Unit (RPSU) Power Distribution Board (PDB) deployed in the ProLiant ML30 Gen11 server. The RPSU PDB module in this server is leveraged from the ProLiant ML30 Gen10 Plus server; therefore, the PICGen11 firmware component is not compatible with the RPSU PDB module in the ProLiant ML30 Gen11.When attempting to update the Advanced Power Capping Microcontroller Firmware on a ProLiant ML30 Gen11 server with iLO 6, the following exception status is displayed:Attempting to update the Advanced Power capping Firmware PICGen10-1.x.x directly on the server will also result in failure:When this occurs, the firmware update is not be completed, the firmware version will remain as it was, and the system will continue to function properly.
Any HPE ProLiant ML30 Gen11 server.
This will be fixed in a future iLO 6 firmware release that will allow the iLO to select the correct firmware file and to flash the correct firmware onto the system. In the meantime, there is no negative impact for the server to keep running the current Advanced Power Capping Microcontroller Firmware version. This advisory will be updated when more information is available.
