For any Synergy Frame Link Module (FLM) running firmware version 5.00.00, an unexpected restart may occur due to a specific memory leak condition that may occur in some environments.Monitoring logic in the FLM firmware proactively detects the unexpected memory growth associated with this memory leak. It then takes action to recover the FLM before overall free memory available falls below a pre-defined critical minimum level, where functional impacts may start to occur. The recovery action taken depends on the current redundancy role of the affected FLM. For an affected FLM operating in the standby role, the FLM is restarted with no impact to the active FLM. When the affected FLM is operating in the active redundancy role, the FLM first initiates a failover of the active role to the peer (healthy) FLM and then restarts. In general, the resulting FLM failover and/or restart should not have any impact to running workloads or persistent disruption of OneView manageability; however, the following may be observed:Temporary loss of connection to HPE OneView or the compute module HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) in the FLM management ring. This is more likely to occur when the FLM that restarts is hosting the active MGMT port connection. An alert in OneView stating: "A frame link module has restarted. Any hardware related alerts on the enclosure have been cleared and will appear again if the issue(s) still exist".No user action is required to recover from this issue as the recovery actions described above are performed automatically by the FLM firmware.
In the scenario described above, any HPE Synergy Frame Link Module or HPE Synergy 4-Port Frame Link Module running firmware version 5.00.00.
To avoid this issue, update the FLM firmware to version 5.01.00 (or later). Firmware version 5.01.00 has been included in HPE Synergy Service Pack (SSP) 2024.11.01. These versions can be found at theHPE Synergy Software Releasespage.Note that FLM firmware version 5.01.00 is also fully supported when applied as a hotfix to the following HPE Synergy Software Releases:All HPE OneView versions 8.7 and later in combination with HPE Synergy Service Pack 2024.07.xx.Additional information regarding Synergy hotfixes can be found in theHPESynergy Hotfixes Compatibility and Support Guidelinespage.Additional information regarding how to install Synergy hotfixes can be found at the following link:Installing HPE Synergy Hotfixes.Revision HistoryDocument VersionRelease DateDetails2January 14, 2025Updated the Resolution section with additional SPP/hotfix information.1November 19, 2024Original Document Release.
