On an HPE ProLiant DL110 server, HPE ProLiant DL320 Gen11 server, HPE ProLiant ML110 Gen11 server, HPE Alletra Storage Server 4110, HPE Alletra Storage Server 4120, or HPE Alletra Storage Server 4140, a Red Screen of Death (RSOD) may occur during the Power-On Self-Test (POST) after a specific firmware update on the boot drive on certain HPE NVMe M.2 SSDs (see Table 1 and Table 2 below for more in details) when Intel Virtual RAID on CPU (Intel VROC) is enabled at UEFI System Utilities (RBSU) mode. This only occurs when the SSD is configured as the boot drive. The RSOD during POST causes the server not to boot into the OS.

To prevent the RSOD from occurring,For the SSDs in Table 1: Remain in HPK0 or HPK1 or update to HPK4, do not update to HPK2/HPK3 and update the System ROM to version 2.40 (or later). To recover the system from RSOD if already updated the SSD in Table 1 to HPK2, perform the following:Process the default setting restored, please referRestoring the default manufacturing settingsin iLO 6 User Guide. After the default setting is restored, power-off the system manually.Apply Drive FWPKG HPK1 Update process, refer toiLO Repositorya. Adding a component to the iLO Repository.b. Installing a component from the iLO Repository.CheckQueued task summary details, removing iLO Task that status was task exception, and kept UEFI task in Installation Queue.Power-On the system manually, and completed drive FW updated, the system will reboot automatically.IMPORTANT: DO NOT boot into OS and boot into RBSU directly.Configuring Intel VROC (NVME RAID)Refer to the following for additional details:HPE iLO 6 User GuideIntel Virtual RAID on CPU for HPE Gen11 User GuideHPK4:Universal Firmware Package for Drives - VR000480KXNXE,VR000960KXNZU and VS001920KXNXF | HPE SupportSystem ROM version 2.40:HPE ProLiant DL110 Gen11 | Product SupportHPE ProLiant DL320 Gen11 /HPE ProLiant ML110 Gen11 | Product SupportHPE Alletra Storage Server 4110 | Product SupportFor the SSDs in Table 2: Update to firmware 85032G00 (or later) and update the System ROM to version 2.40 (or later). To download the firmware 85032G00 (or later), perform the following steps:Click the following link:Hewlett Packard Enterprise Support CenterEnter a product name (e.g., "HPE MODEL Number in table 2") in the text search field and wait for a list of Suggested Products to display.
