Performing a firmware installation (upgrade/downgrade or reflash/re-write) using the Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) / Smart Update Manager (SUM) for any of the HPE E810-based network adapters listed in the Scope section below, may fail in HPE iLO.Standalone firmware installation of the HPE E810 based network adapters via HPE iLO Graphical User Interface may also fail for these network adapters. This issue occurs due to a limitation in the Platform Level Data Model (PLDM) Firmware Update module of HPE iLO that cannot dynamically accommodate the Function Level Reset (FLR) mechanism on the HPE Intel E810-based network adapters. This flash failure can occur at any time during the PLDM firmware update process.Note:The issue may be experienced in the following scenarios:Upgrading firmware from version A->B.Downgrading firmware from version B->A.Flashing same firmware version A->A.Example of the firmware flash error message displayed in the Smart Update Manager"Update returned an error."Example of the firmware flash error message displayed in the HPE iLO GUI - Installation Queue"The update failed with a component specific error. As a workaround, reset iLO and perform the Firmware Update Operation once again on the affected HPE Intel E810-based network adapter.Notes:Performing an iLO reset will not affect the iLO functionality as customers will perform the reset with their own Awareness.HPE is investigating this issue to provide a solution in a future release. This advisory will be updated when additional solutions become available.Revision HistoryDocument VersionRelease DateDetails3February 7, 2025Example of the firmware update error message displayed in HPE OneView has been added to the Description section.2August 22, 2024Issue has been identified in the firmware upgrade/downgrade or reflash/re-write processes for the affected network adapters.Resolution section has been updated with a workaround to mitigate the issue.HPE is investigating this issue to provide a solution in a future release.1June 4, 2024Original Document Release.
