For any HPE Synergy 480 Gen11 compute modules using Intel Virtual RAID on CPU (VROC) and HPE Synergy 480 Gen10 Plus compute modules using Intel Volume Management Device (VMD), performing a drive firmware update is only supported via Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI).The HPE Synergy Service Packs (SSPs) do not contain Intel VROC/VMD supported drive firmware components for online updates.
In the scenario described above, any HPE Synergy 480 Gen11 compute modules using Intel VROC and HPE Synergy 480 Gen10 Plus compute modules using Intel VMD.
If the drives are managed by Intel VROC/VMD, perform the following steps to update the drive firmware:1. Extract the drive firmware component from the latestSSP. Copy the ".rel" file to a temporary directory.2. Reboot the system and press F9 to access System Utilities.3. From the System Utilities menu, go to Embedded Applications and select "Firmware Update".4. Select the device(s) that requires the firmware update.5. In the Firmware Update menu, click "Select a firmware file".6. Select the "File Systems on Attached Media" option.7. Select the "iLO Virtual USB Key" option.8. Select the firmware package.9. Click on "Start firmware update".10. Select "OK" to start the firmware update11.
