When an HPE Gen11 system is configured with more than two HPE 1000W power supply units (PSUs)with at least one PSU running firmware version 2.0 and others running either the same or different firmware versions, if only the PSU with firmware version 2.0 is connected to AC power while the others remain disconnected, the system may fail to power on properly. In this system power-on failure scenario, the green LED indicator on the PSU will blink in a repeating pattern, illuminating for approximately one second and not illuminating for approximately 8 seconds.
Any HPE Gen11 servers using HPE 1000W Flex Slot Titanium Hot Plug Power Supply (SPN:P44412-001 with PN:P03160-102/PN:P03160-602) and firmware v2.0 (found in iLO). OPTION KIT PN: P03178-B21 SPN:P44412-001PN:P03160-102:PN:P03160-602
This is not a hardware issue with the Power Supply Unit(PSU). Do not replace any PSUs. This issue can be resolved by updating the PSU firmware. Before proceeding with the PSU firmware update, note the following:1. Apply the workaround first to ensure that the PSU firmware can be updated successfully while the system is not in the failure state.Workaround: When installing one or more power supply units (PSUs) with firmware version 2.0, ensure that each PSU is connected to an AC power source. Do NOT install any PSU without connecting it to AC power. Failure to do so may prevent the system from powering on properly.2. iLO 6 firmware version 1.69 or earlier does not support PSU firmware updates. Update the iLO 6 firmware to the latest version prior to performing the PSU firmware update. A cold reboot may be required after completing the PSU firmware update. It is therefore recommended to perform the update during a maintenance window or scheduled downtime.
