On an HPE ProLiant Gen10 or Gen10 plus or HPE ProLiant Gen11 server running Linux and configured with a Broadcom controller with multiple SAS or SATA hard drives, the drive firmware will fail to update in Smart Update Manager (SUM) Integrated Smart Update Tools (iSUT) mode and display the following example message:Deploy completed with errors. Deployment failed for firmware-hdd-bdfb8e99d9-HPD6-3.1.x86_64.rpm. Task has moved to Exception state in iLO RepositoryAlthough the firmware does not update on multiple hard drives, the operation or functionality of the hard drive is not affected.This can be observed when performing the following steps:Connect multiple (for example four Seagate Skybolt 512n SAS) hard drives to a Broadcom controller.Install AMS (Agentless Management Service) and iSUT (Integrated Smart Update Tool) on a target Linux OS, for example, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.1. Run the command in the command prompt:sut -set mode=autodeployrebootNavigate to Extracted Service Pack for ProLiant (for example, Gen10 SPP Version 2022.09.01.00 - SPP2022090100.2022_0930.1.iso) folder path in Jump station. Run launch_sum.sh, a SUM page will open.Click on Nodes->Add Node. A dialog box appears; under the nodes section enter the iLO IP of the server uncheck "Automatically add associated nodes box" and for the node type, select as iLO. Select SPP baseline, enter the iLO username and password, and select Add.After completion of fetching details, nodes get added, and clicking on inventory, select components which required an update in review and deploy page, and click on deploy.After deploying, the page displays "update returned an error." On the Node page, an error gets displayed, for example, 172.17.31.91: Deploy completed with errors. Deployment failed for firmware-hdd-bdfb8e99d9-HPD6-3.1.x86_64.rpm. Task has moved to Exception state in iLO Repository.

Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) 2024.04.00.00 contains the drive firmware that supports the firmware update with multiple hard drives connected to a Broadcom controller in SUM iSUT mode.To download the SPP Version 2024.04.00.00 (or later), perform the following steps:Click the following link:Hewlett Packard Enterprise Support CenterEnter a product name (e.g., "Service Pack for ProLiant") in the text search field and wait for a list of Suggested Products to display. From the Suggested Products list displayed, identify the desired product and select it.The page should refresh to display the "DRIVERS AND SOFTWARE" tab and the components that support the selected product. From the "DRIVERS AND SOFTWARE" expandable filter menus on the left side of the page:Select the Software Type - (insert the specific filter here, e.g. "Firmware")Select the Software Sub Type - (insert the specific filter here, e.g. "Driver - System Management")For further filtering if needed - Select the specific Operating System from the Operating Environment.Locate and select the Service Pack for ProLiant Version 2024.04.00.00 (or later).Note: To ensure that you have selected the latest version of the firmware/driver, click the Revision History tab to check if a new version of the firmware/driver is available.For more important information, review the Release Notes tab.Click theDownloadbutton.As a workaround, firmware can be updated using the standalone method by performing the following:Install the firmware rpm using the following command:rpm -ivhThis extracts the contents of the rpm to the '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu' location.The CP<nnnnnn>.scexe script is located in the 'scexe-compat' folder.
