Document Version Release Date Details 2 May 10, 2023 Updated the Resolution to mention firmware version IN110P002, which contains the fix. 1 January 13, 2023 Original Document Release. HPE MSA 1060/2060/2062 Storage Systems with attached expansion enclosures may report an 'Invalid Bundle' in the user interface. This issue stems from a compatible firmware component on the expansion IOM, EC version 5352, which is not included/listed in the firmware bundle. The IOM firmware version cannot be reverted, which results in the system reporting an 'Invalid Bundle.' Attempts to activate the same or different firmware levels will not complete successfully and may result in controllers in the same system running different firmware levels. To validate this issue, run the following commands: # show versions Controller A Versions Controller B Versions --------------------- --------------------- Bundle Version: Invalid Bundle (IN110P001) Invalid Bundle (IN110P001) # show enclosures Encl ….. EMP A CH:ID Rev EMP B CH:ID Rev ….. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 ….. 00:127 533D 01:127 533D ….. 2 ….. 00:255 5352 01:255 5352 ….. There is a hardware change in HPE MSA Gen6 enclosures and expansion IOMs. This new component can be seen in the show frus command where the enclosure and the IOM revision will be "DL", which indicates the new hardware component. If the system has an 'Invalid bundle' but does not include the new IOM revision, then the report is caused by another issue, which should be investigated. Commands to see the new hardware revision: # show frus …. This advisory applies to all HPE MSA 1060/2060/2062 Storage systems with attached disk enclosures. IMPORTANT : Attempts to resolve the issue by flashing/activating firmware will likely result in mis-matched firmware on controllers, which should be resolved and validated from both controllers. The 'Invalid Bundle' issue is resolved in HPE MSA Storage system firmware version IN110P002. Firmware is available on the MSA Firmware website. Validate firmware versions on each controller and update as necessary. As a workaround, it is safe to continue operations with the 'Invalid bundle' condition. NOTE : If controller firmware is mis-matched on controllers, this should be resolved immediately. Action Plan Disable the Partner Firmware Upgrade (PFU): CLI> set advanced-settings partner-firmware-upgrade disabled SMU: Settings > System > Firmware Properties Via the CLI, activate the latest firmware (IN110P001) on each controller. Wait for the first controller to complete before starting the second controller: CLI> show firmware-bundles Bundle Version Build Date Status Health Reason Action ------------------------------------------------------------------------ IN110P001 Mon Jan 03 23:02:21 MDT Active OK IN100P003 2021-02-17T23:40:01Z Available OK ------------------------------------------------------------------------ CLI> activate firmware bundle <active/available> Active or Available, whichever shows the IN110P001 version. It could be either or both slots for firmware. IMPORTANT: Repeat both commands for both controllers and action as directed. Each controller can have a different list of firmware bundles. Re-Enable PFU: CLI> set advanced-settings partner-firmware-upgrade enabled SMU: Settings > System > Firmware Properties RECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES : Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively in your e-mail through HPE Support Alerts.
