On any HPE Synergy compute modules with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server updates installed, a Converged Network Adapter may halt and HPE OneView may display the following error message:"The adapter in Mezzanine Slot X is present but reported incomplete or invalid configuration data."This issue is considered rare; it can potentially occur when performing the following steps:Assign a server profile in OneView.Power the compute module on.After the OS is booted, the RHEL OS is put in a suspended state when a power option is selected, "Momentary Press" in HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) is selected, OR the "Momentary Press" is selected to power off:After the system is fully suspended, the "Press and hold" power option in iLO or the power action "Press and hold" in OneView is clicked:The "Press and hold" power off will force a shutdown of the compute module after a few seconds. Due to a network adapter driver and OS interaction issue, the network adapter driver may attempt to capture diagnostic data before it completely shuts down. If during this time, the system's power is cut off, the network adapter may be in a halted state for much longer than intended.By default, all supported Linux Operating Systems have a Suspend Mode function enabled if the GNOME GUI is installed. When the power button is pressed or the Chassis Power Soft operation is used from the ipmitool on a system running RHEL, the GNOME graphics console will suspend instead of initiating a graceful shutdown. This will also occur when using the Momentary Press power option in the Integrated Lights-Out (iLO).Some devices do not support the Suspend Mode, e.g., the adapters listed below in the Scope, which can cause the OneView error message to appear in some instances. After the server issue occurs, OneView will place the compute module in an "Unmanaged" or "Profile Error" state upon refreshing or re-applying the server profile in OneView. Then the error message, "The adapter in Mezzanine Slot X is present but reported incomplete or invalid configuration data" will be seen on the Server Hardware page in OneView. The error message is a OneView issue because the port map is not populating after a server refresh:
Any HPE Synergy Compute Modules managed by HPE OneView and running Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7, 8.x or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15, with any of the following network adapters installed:HPE Synergy 4820C 10/20/25Gb Converged Network AdapterHPE Synergy 6810C 25/50Gb Ethernet AdapterHPE Synergy 6820C 25/50Gb Converged Network AdapterNote: Windows and VMware ESXi OS versions will be able to shut down the server via HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) or HPE OneView. For more reference information, seeCA c05384324on suspending rather than shutting down a server in Linux 7 and how to work around it.
The driver component(s) included inHPE Synergy Software Packs (SSP)SY-2022.11.01 or later SSP versions can prevent the Operating System (OS) from going into a suspend mode. However, there is a chance this may still occur after the update.Disabling the suspend mode on the OS will further help in preventing the issue, use the following command in the OS command prompt:systemctl mask sleep.target suspend.target hibernate.target hybrid-sleep.target suspend-then-hibernate.targetIf the system does go into the state as stated in the Description section above, the Compute Module can be recovered by performing an e-fuse reset or removing and reinserting the server. For an e-fuse reset, use the Electronic Fuse (e-fuse) command to disconnect power to the server, without physically removing or inserting the server.Perform the following steps:Access the Maintenance Console.Enter a command such as the following:efuse (deviceBay | interconnectBay | managerBay | applianceBay)<enclosure-name | enclosure-uuid> <bay-number>For more information, refer toHPE OneView 6.6 User Guide for HPE Synergy.Power the server on until the Power-On Self-Test (POST) is completed.Refresh server hardware in OneView.Power the server off.Re-apply the server profile. If, even after an e-fuse reset the system does not recover to a managed state and are unable to power on or apply a profile, this is due to OneView not populating the port map after a server refresh. Physical removal and re-insertion of the compute module is needed. This issue will be corrected in a future OneView release. This advisory will be updated when additional solutions become available.Document VersionRelease DateDetails2June 04, 2025The Resolution section has been updated with HPE Synergy Software Pack information to prevent the documented issue.1August 29, 2022Original Document Release.
