On an HPE ConvergedSystem 700 or HPE ConvergedSystem 750, HPE Integrated Lights-Out 5 (iLO 5) may display a random status of "unknown" for embedded NICs after a cold boot. This issue does not affect the functionality of the NICs. This may be an issue if using this value for scripted deploys. When using the REST output for the network adapter status of servers on iLO 5, viewing the "status" of the base network adapter target on the iLO 5 may not change from unknown after the Power-On Self-Test (POST) completes. When functioning as expected, POST completes and during the server network boot cycle, the device status for embedded NICs changes from unknown to "enabled" (in device inventory) and the adapter and port status changes to "ok" (in "network" tab under system information). When this issue occurs, the status does not change to enabled/OK after POST finishes. The NIC ports are linked and active. This has been observed on a system with the HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331i; however, this may occur on other network adapters.
Any HPE ConvergedSystem 700 and HPE ConvergedSystem 750 with iLO 5 firmware v2.65 (or earlier) with an embedded NICs during a scripted deploy.
This issue is resolved in Integrated Lights-Out 5 (iLO 5) firmware version 2.70 (or later).Workaround:Reset iLO 5 to recover the status.Additional information is available in the Customer Advisory, (a00123379en_us): HPE Integrated Lights-Out 5 (iLO 5) - Random Status of "Unknown" Is Displayed for Embedded NICs After a Cold BootAdditional information is also available at the following:HPE Converged Solutions 750 Firmware and Software Compatibility Matrix June 2021HPE Converged Solutions 700 Firmware and Software Compatibility Matrix December 2021Revision HistoryDocument VersionRelease DateDetails2November 1, 2024The Resolution was updated with the version of iLO 5 firmware that resolves this issue.1May 19, 2022Original Document Release.
