HPE has identified a compatibility issue with the RHEL host server using driver version 10.02.01.00.a14-k1 on all HPE 8GB QLogic Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters. This issue is caused by the driver enabling hardware 'multi-queue' functionality on the HPE 8GB QLogic FC Host Bus Adapters, even though this option is not implemented within the hardware. Loss of connectivity to the target under heavy load may occur if the arrays implement different Data Integrity Field (DIF) checksum technologies. When using this driver intermittent performance degradation or hangs may occur. In some cases, errors similar to the events mentioned below were also accompanied in the messages log prior to system hang.2021-12-09T16:29:08.780102+05:30 linux-guab kernel: [ 8900.775993] qla2xxx [0000:0b:00.0]-3022:7: FCP command status: 0x5-0x0 (0x80000) nexus=7:0:0 portid=6f0d00 oxid=0x9f cdb=2a20081677c000800000 len=0x1000000 rsp_info=0x0 resid=0x0 fw_resid=0x0 sp=ffff9a11b07342d8 cp=ffff9a11b0734138.2021-12-09T16:29:08.780127+05:30 linux-guab kernel: [ 8900.776016] qla2xxx [0000:0b:00.0]-801c:7: Abort command issued nexus=7:0:0 -- 2002.Other error messages related to the qla2xxx driver may be seen in the messages log with symptoms as described.
This advisory applies to all HPE 8GB QLogic FC Host Bus Adapters that use driver version 10.02.01.00.a14-k1.
This issue is fixed in SPP version 2022.09.01.00 with driver update qla2xxx version 10.02.07.00-k1 (and later drivers), released only for Red Hat Enterprise Linux OS 8U5/8U6 and SLES 12sp5.As a workaround, perform either of the following actions on the operating system:Downgrade to the previous HPE driver version 10.01.00.64-k1ORDisable the ql2xenabledif_tgt driver parameter using the following steps:Add a new file to/etc/modprobe.d/namedqla2xxx.conf.Edit this file to add the following text statement:options qla2xxx ql2xenabledif_tgt=0This will ensure that modprobe calls the qla2xxx driver with that option on boot.NOTE:If boot from SAN is being used, then rebuild dracut after making this change.A reboot of the host server is required after this driver parameter is changed.Revision HistoryDocument VersionRelease DateDetails2September 26, 2024Abbreviated one instance of "Host Bus Adapters" and "Operating System" in the title to make room for "(Revision)", and updated the Resolution section with the fix1March 15, 2022Original Document Release
