A "Failed Dependency Error" may be displayed when running the Emulex Fibre Channel, Emulex Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) and QLogic Fibre Channel Linux firmware components in version 2019.03.01 of the Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP). This will occur if the inbox Linux drivers for the adapters are running when the inventory is performed. The message occurs due to a false dependency in the listed firmware components.
Any HPE system running the SPP 2019.03.01 and the inbox Linux drivers with any HPE Emulex FCoE, QLogic FC, or Emulex FC.
To flash the firmware on HPE Emulex FCoE, QLogic FC, or Emulex FC adapters in Linux, perform either of the following workarounds: Install the out-of-box-drivers and Enablement kits included in the SPP before launching the firmware flash components. OR Copy the firmware component(s) from SPP 2019.03.01 and run outside of the SPP by performing the following: Install the firmware installation tool with the following command: rpm -Uhv <rpm_package_name>.rpm This extracts the firmware installation tool to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu (64-bit systems). Change the directory to the appropriate location for the system, and update the firmware by typing the following command: ./.setup When the firmware installation is complete, the firmware installation tool can be removed from the system using the following rpm -e command: rpm -e <rpm_package_name> Firmware components in the next SPP release will not list driver and enablement kits as a dependency.
