IMPORTANT: This HPGB firmware is considered a critical fix and is required to address the issue detailed below. HPE strongly recommends immediate application of this critical fix. Neglecting to perform the required action could leave the server in an unstable condition, which could potentially result in sub-optimal server performance or a false failure of the drive. By disregarding this notification and not performing the recommended resolution, the customer accepts the risk of incurring future related errors.Certain HPE SATA-based Solid State Drives (SSD) or M.2 Series Drives running with drive firmware HPG8 (or earlier), may be affected by a potential false failure issue within the NAND induced only during 4K reads with partially programed blocks. A large accumulation of these NAND level failures and may lead to a false failure of the drive. For more details, please refer to the drive firmware Release Notes for the version with this fix listed in the Resolution section.

HPE has released firmware version HPGB, which helps prevent the anomaly described above and accurately reflects the number of NAND block failures.Use the criteria available in table above (special attention to the bolded columns) to confirm if the SATA SSD or M.2 drive being used is potentially exposed to this issue. If the SATA SSD or M.2 drive matches the criteria provided, immediately upgrade the drive firmware to HPGB using the download link below depending on the drive model and operating system installed:HPGB Firmware for VK000240GWEZB, VK000480GWEZC, VK000960GWEZD, VK001920GWEZE, MK000240GWEZF, MK000480GWEZH, MK000960GWEZK, and MK001920GWHRU Drives:VMware:https://www.hpe.com/global/swpublishing/MTX-3c24ff291a764ab09fb092596eWindows:https://www.hpe.com/global/swpublishing/MTX-7fc9ee63daef424797d3a4889dLinux:https://www.hpe.com/global/swpublishing/MTX-d45be1e309424240b1d248b84aHPGB Firmware for MR000240GWFLU, MR000480GWFLV, VR000480GWFMD, MR000960GWFMA, VR000960GWFME, MR001920GWFMB, and VR001920GWFMC Drives:VMware:https://www.hpe.com/global/swpublishing/MTX-ef373fca983b4e40a4e88e2b17Windows:https://www.hpe.com/global/swpublishing/MTX-60982b1bab1e4c2c80aedff9ccLinux:https://www.hpe.com/global/swpublishing/MTX-e64a00b9e0204797900e86900eRelease NotesFixed issue to a read-disturb mechanism within the NAND induced only during 4K reads with partially programed blocks. The NAND read time is modified to prevent the impact of the reads. This change prevents premature or false failure of the drive.Fix to a non-exploitable vulnerability in the firmware download process. Corrected FW will increment the security version to ensure that all SSDs receiving the update will not be capable of downloading previous FW with the issue. Regression back to an earlier version of firmware will not be possible.NOTE:Products sold prior to the November 1, 2015 separation of Hewlett-Packard Company into Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company and HP Inc. may have older product names and model numbers that differ from current models.RECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES: Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively via e-mail through HPE Subscriber's Choice.
