Connection on HPE QLogic FastLinQ 25Gb based network adapters will not link up with SmartAN enabled in NIC HII menu in the "System Utility" when connecting to an HPE 5950 Switch through HPE DAC cables. Link negotiation fails because the HPE 5950 Switch does not support Reed Solomon Forward Error Correction (RS-FEC) and the HPE DAC cables (listed in the Scope section below) are type L and RS-FEC enablement is required if needed to connect via SmartAN.

As a workaround since SmartAN mode is enabled by default on HPE QLogic FastLinQ 25Gb based network adapters, disable SmartAN on the adapter and then manually configure FEC on the card to match the configuration on the HPE 5950 Switch. Note: With this configuration environment, the following message may be shown when checking the transceiver information on Switch 5950. This is still a qualified configuration and will be supported by HPE Support.
