Observed Failure Indicators UI Behavior File Level Recovery (FLR) jobs fail in the PowerProtect Data Manager interface. The FLR module reports that it cannot locate the target files for restoration. Log Entries: 2026-02-04T09:22:45.715Z ERROR: recover_files: Unable to translate recover object paths. Unable to locate 'Directory\subdirectory\subdirectory\xxx.doc' in any subdirectories of 'C:\Program Files (x86)\EMC\vProxy FLR Agent\flr\mountpoints\FLRsession_id'.
Incorrect Drive Letter Extraction in NTFS Backups The FLR module could not locate target files because drive letters were not correctly extracted from NTFS‑based Windows VM backups. This omission produced restore paths that lacked a leading drive letter, causing restoration to fail. Backup content: Windows VM with NTFS volumesAffected version: 19.21Root cause: The backup metadata extraction routine omitted drive letters, resulting in incomplete restore paths Effect on Restoration Workflow Paths generated for file recovery omitted the drive identifier (for example, Directory\... instead of D:\Directory\... ...). The FLR engine could not map these paths to any mountpoint, leading to job failures in the UI. Upgrade to Fixed Release (Version 20.1) Upgrade PowerProtect Data Manager to Fixed Release (Version 20.1) The issue has been resolved in the PowerProtect release 20.1. To remediate the problem, upgrade to the latest available release of PowerProtect Data Manager. The most recent versions can be downloaded from the PowerProtect Data Manager Drivers & Downloads page. For additional details, refer to the following resources: PowerProtect Data Manager: Info Hub Product Documents and Information How to update the software version of PowerProtect Data Manager Workaround: Use VM‑Level FLR. If upgrading to 20.1 is not immediately possible, restore the entire virtual machine instead of individual files. In the PowerProtect Data Manager UI, select the affected VM backup.Choose Full VM Restore (FLR) and follow the wizard. After the VM is restored, manually retrieve the required files from the restored VM. Verification Steps Run a file‑level restore for a known file located on an NTFS volume.Check the restore log for entries similar to: 2026-02-04T09:22:45.715Z INFO: recover_files: Successfully translated recover object paths. Confirm that the restored file appears in the target location with the correct drive letter. Upgrading PowerProtect Data Manager temporarily stops backup and restore services. Ensure that all active jobs are completed or paused before proceeding. After the upgrade, clear any cached mount points by restarting the FLR agent: systemctl restart flr-agent Running a VM‑level FLR restores the entire virtual machine, which may overwrite existing VM data. Verify the target VM name and location before confirming the restore.
